OPEN DOORS CENTER FOR CHILDREN

Our youngest daughter Lisa Dianne Gonzales asked me if I would walk around town with our only Grand Daughter Lily since their class, Open Doors Center For Children was having a walk around town outing visiting several landmarks; e.g., Library, Court House, Post Office, Water Department and ending up at our Fire Department.  I replied, "Yes" without any hesitation.

BACKGROUND OF OPEN DOORS CENTER FOR CHILDREN

The open doors center for children is sponsored by the First United Methodist Church here in Wadesboro, NC and I will do a copy and paste from the Church webpage:

The first phase of Open Doors Center for Children, a licensed child care facility, opened on February 4, 2008, with one classroom. This classroom is a More at Four class, licensed for 18 children ages four to five. The curriculum is designed to prepare children for kindergarten and encourages learning through creativity and exploration. Working and playing in small groups allows each child to explore the world in a manner that best suits his individual learning style. Open Doors will strive to prepare children to enter school with the social, physical, emotional and intellectual skills needed to be successful.

Children learn through play. Play is their work, and it is the way in which they learn about the world and their place in it. This child-centered curriculum starts with the knowledge that children learn through their senses and learn the most through learning about things that interest them. Teachers provide learning opportunities that balance children's interests with presenting new information.

It is our goal to form a partnership with parents. Children feel most secure when they are confident that there is a strong bond between the most important people in their lives, and between their homes and their center. At Open Doors Center, we believe in the value and importance of each individual child. We embrace the motto of the United Methodist Church, "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open doors."

GETTING STARTED

The walk around was scheduled to start at 12:00 Noon on February 8, 2022 and I arrived several minutes early at the facility and signed in.  One of the teachers Mrs. Dayna was getting everything ready and the children were quickly lined up on the walkway and some type of tether system was stretched out and had spaced cloth loops for the children to hold on to.

I will add pixs taken from the start to the finish and hopefully do not leave anyone out.

Above pix of Mrs. Dayna, one of the teachers with a good grin going!

We started out on East Morgan Street making our way to South Green Street and turning right.

Everyone is out the gate and ready to go!

LIBRARY

The first stop was the Library and Mrs. Dayna quizzed them about what was inside the library and they got it correct; books!

IN ROUTE TO THE COURT HOUSE

We crossed the street at the square and I failed to get a pix of Parsons Drug Store, my bad!

The Anson County Court House really looks big with the children in front of it.

NEXT STOP POST OFFICE

I got a pix of Miss Lily waving to her Paw Paw behind the camera!

We headed down North Green Street and made a right turn onto East Martin Street to view the United States Post Office below:

Another view below of the old Court House facing the United State Post Office.

After leaving the Post Office, we made a right turn onto North Washington Street.

Pix of KFC in the distance.

The little girl in the center asked if I could take her picture............grin if you must!

HEADING TOWARD THE FIRE DEPARTMENT

Above is pix of the First United Methodist Church as viewed from South Washington Street.

We are on our last turn and will be heading to the finish line before too much longer!

Everyone up to this point is having a very good time, enjoying being outside on a good stroll!

HEADING BACK TO THE OPEN DOORS CENTER

I noticed that Mrs. Dayna did a "head count" several times during the course of this outing!  Back to our starting point.

INSIDE THE CENTER PLAYGROUND

Pix of one portion of the play ground which is superbly maintained.

Mrs. Dayna has the children still for some reading to them.

Well, maybe a few are on the move..........another grin is in order!

Mrs. Dayna continued to quiz the children and they were attentive and respondent for sure.

In closing, I had a great time with the children and glad I was invited to attend.

PRE-SCHOOL GRADUATION - CLASS OF 2035

The Open Doors Center For Children had their 2022 graduation ceremony on May 25, 2022 at 9:30 A.M.

The class sang some songs and orally displayed a few of the things they had learned, ABCs, Numbers, etc.

MISS LILY GONZALES RECEIVING HER DIPLOMA

After each student received their diploma, they were all lined up and proceeded to jump into Kindergarten.   I will thumbnail the pixs other than Miss Lily, therefore click on the thumbnail pix for a larger screen view:

PROUD PARENTS, GRAND PARENTS AND FAMILY

After the graduation ceremony, the kids were given gifts and I believe received a book.

This is a stepping stone for each of the graduating preschool class members and with the help of family and of course, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, they will one day become productive citizens.
