MOTHER'S DAY 2022

This is a copy and paste introduction from our Mother's Day 2020 and Mother's Day 2016 with the dates changed.  This year, Mother's Day is celebrated on May 8, 2022.  For many decades, we celebrated Mother's Day with our immediate family, Mom and Pop, friends and a few "in-laws" at our home, but since my bride's brainstem stroke about sixteen (16) years ago, we had to cut back on many of our larger annual events and have relied on restaurants to help fill in the gap.  My bride was the driving force behind such gatherings and she really misses them held at our home.  She did all the planning, decorating, artistic touches, baking, stove top cooking, etc., and I handled all the brawn stuff on the grill and deep fried turkeys.  I am sure the date on our birth certificate has a little to do with our scaling back as well........grin if you must!  Both the Adcock and Porter Klan definitely know how to do some serious food preparation as evidenced by the many hundreds of pixs published on this website.  Whether celebrating at our home or out and about, the friendship and fellowship shared along with a good meal makes the occasion a lasting memory!

As far back as I can remember, our families have celebrated Mother's Day which was indeed a very special day for our Mothers and our Spouses!  The Holiday goes back to the Roman and Greek era, but the Christian Holiday was instituted in the USA around 1908 and usually celebrated on the second Sunday in May each year.  My bride of 54 years wrote a beautiful poem titled, "White Flowers" in memory and honor of her Mother Nellie Adcock who died August 7, 1974.

My bride aka Joyce, read the poem hyperlinked above during a Mother's Day program at The Wadesboro Church of God on May 8, 1988 and a real tear jerker for sure!

I also have a transcript of the poem  here.  My Grandma Della Coley also died that same year who raised me as her own son and I sure do miss her.

This years Mother's Day Celebration was very low key and we had the local Porter Klan with us.  We do miss our Son Bill, Jr., and his family out in Vista, California, of which Bill called and had a long chat with his Mom.  I also talked with him.

NAVEL ORANGES AND CARDS

Nichol, Bill's bride sent a box of navel oranges grown on their tree and they arrived Saturday, whereas we sampled one of them and it was very sweet.  The best orange we have had in a very long time.  Nichol also enclosed a Mother's Day card in the box.

With the coronavirus still active, but with declining cases locally, we are still staying home except for take out and/or drive through, and hopefully before too much longer, things will get back to normal, our Lord willing of course.

I decided to let BoJangles do the meal for us and got a 12 piece family meal with three (3) sides and one half gallon of sweet tea.  The sides were:  dirty rice, beans and cole slaw; whereas they were out of mac n cheese.  BoJangles was packed out and had 12 folks in front of me at the inside line and the outside drive through was backed up as well!

Those attending were: Joyce aka my bride, yours truly, Laura Porter, Travis and Trevor Huneycutt, Lisa, Lily and Xander Gonzales.

I said a prayer for all our Mother's and for our Lord Jesus Christ to bless the food to the nourishment of our bodies.

A FEW PIX TAKEN

I took very few pixs, but will post what I did take.

Lisa and Xander Gonzales.  Notice the China Styrofoam plates......grin if you must!

Miss Lily working on a chicken leg.

Travis, Laura and Trevor.

Miss Lily with the "Tall Boys" as she calls them, Trevor and Travis Huneycutt.  She sure loves those tall boys!

Xander McKnight Gonzales with his usual two finger sign.

After our meal, Travis and Miss Lily had fun doing a dance number from Lily's tablet and Lily teaching Travis the moves!.

In closing, we had a wonderful time and I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for his many blessings and our family and the fellowship we share.  "Two of the Greatest Ships that ever Sailed, Friendship and Fellowship."

PS  My bride doesn't want her picture taken and I certainly honor that!  I constantly tell her, she is beautiful as ever.

PROVERBS CH 31: 10-31 KJV BIBLE

10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

My bride aka Joyce is still the love of my Life!
