INTRODUCTION

We have a large White Oak tree near the North end of our home that I use for hanging and skinning deer that I harvest.  I nicknamed this tree Tom Dooley aka Dula after the Kingston Tri hit song Tom Dooley.

Over the decades,  the tree has slowly leaned toward the South, due to damage to the base of the tree done by a logging crew a couple decades or more ago who skinned a huge amount of bark from the base of the tree by pulling a large pine tree log with a cable winch to their loading truck, removing bark from the tree.

I attempted to nurse the skinned base of the tree back to health by painting it and spraying insect killer, but eventually insects got into it and the bark finally grew back together closing the open wound, but insects had done some serious internal damage to the tree.

With the introduction about the White Oak tree which I seemed to personify, it has become a safety hazard due to the amount of lean toward our home which leads us to Eddie's Tree Removal.

I have used the services of another tree removal company from Cheraw, SC and contacted the companies recommended verbally and an internet search, I decided to use Eddie's Tree Removal and made a verbal contract with him to do the job.  One of the companies contacted declined the offer since his bucket truck's maximum lift was 50 feet from the ground.

GETTING READY FOR THE CHIPS TO FLY

Eddie Maye backed the truck into position and it wasn't long before Milton Bolden was in the bucket and heading skyward.

With all the recent rain, the bucket had to be drained and wiped out before ascending.

FIRST LIMB CUT

After the first limb was cut, the hydraulic lever valve at the bucket control that operates the rear in/out movement of the boom, did not operate at all and finally got a very slow movement like Grandma's molasses on a cold winter morning.  Every now and then, it would act normal, but it slowed the operation down tremendously.  Eddie had to let Dola Holt go home since, there wasn't enough limbs quickly falling to the ground to warrant two ground men.

Eddie Maye has already made arrangements to have the hydraulic valve serviced.

TREE TRIMMING/CUTTING CONTINUES

The third pix from the left shows just how much of a lean/tilt the White Oak Tree has; no wonder I have been very uneasy and anxious to get this tree cut back.  It wasn't too many decades ago, that I would have put on a set of pole climbers, safety belt, etc., and attempted this job myself, but the date on my birth certificate and common sense would not allow such........grin if you must!

I measured from the base of the tree to the house roof eve overhang and it is approximately 49 feet, therefore I wanted the tree cut to where it was only 40 feet above ground level, giving plenty of clearance if and when it does fall and allow for some limb growth also.

As stated earlier, I use the tree to hang my harvested deer and maybe will get several more years out of it before it falls and/or I decide to put the ole Husqvarna farm model 55 chainsaw to it myself.

BACK TO THE TREE TRIMMING

Tomorrow, I will get a few more pixs of the finished job.  Good camera daylight was getting gone and the last pix was taken around 4:45 PM.

Eddie is sending some of his crew back in the morning to load up oak limbs that will render some excellent firewood.

FINISHED JOB

In summary, I am very well pleased with the tree service provided by Eddie's Tree Removal and Eddie provides lawn and landscaping services along with heated mobile pressure washing!

I enjoyed chatting with Eddie and his crew and highly recommend his services.

My bride aka Joyce related to me that she worked with Eddie's Mother Martha, (now deceased) at the Anson Diner here in Wadesboro, NC many, many years ago and that Martha was a wonderful Christian Lady and often mentioned Eddie.

One of the things that most impressed me about Eddie and his crew; I did not hear a single word of profanity which speaks highly of them.

On the back of Eddie's business card, he had one of my favorite Bible scriptures:  Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

UPDATE

Eddie's after the sale service is very lacking and/or non-existent.  I contacted him a couple times to come by and look at a small project and he never showed up.  I guess the job was too small for his time.
