GARLIC BREAD

INGREDIENTS:

Bread of your choice                        1 stick melted butter or margarine
1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley       3 cloves fresh finely chopped garlic
1 teaspoon sweet basil                1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Oregano, sprinkle

Allow butter or margarine to come up to room temperature in a medium size bowl or help it along in the microwave.  When butter is soft, add the chopped parsley, chopped garlic, garlic powder, sweet basil and sprinkle in Oregano and mix well.

NOTE:  Butter does taste better but it is your choice.

Not being a purist for this recipe and being somewhat frugal, I use whatever bread I have on hand;  Italian sliced bread or in loaf form, French or regular burger buns and coat each piece of bread evenly top and bottom with the above mixture using a pastry brush.  If using whole loaf, slice each piece about 1 inch thick.  Arrange bread on a cookie sheet or baking pan and bake in pre-heated 375 degree oven for 5 minutes until bottom begins to turn golden brown.  Turn oven off and set broil to high and broil until golden brown and dark around the edges and center is not soggy.

Serve immediately or store in a bread basket covered with a towel until ready to use.
