  CLUB SANDWICH

INGREDIENTS:

3 slices toasted white bread or bread of your choice
2 slices or more fully cooked ham, turkey or combination of both
1 slice of sharp cheddar cheese
2 slices or more of tomato about 1/4 inch in thickness, depends on what size tomato you have
Romaine lettuce or lettuce of your choice
3 pieces bacon cooked crisp and drained
Duke's Mayonnaise or mayonnaise of your choice
Salt - to taste
Fresh ground black peppercorns (Tellicherry) - to taste

Fry bacon crisp and drain on paper towels.  Toast 3 slices of white bread or bread of your choice.  Slather mayonnaise on one side of two slices of bread.  On one side of bread, add ham and cheese.   Slather mayonnaise on third slice of toasted bread and place on top of ham and cheese.  Slather mayonnaise on top of that slice of bread.  Add slices of tomato and salt and pepper to taste, add lettuce and bacon.  Place remaining slice of bread on top and mash down.  Place four long toothpicks into sandwich to help hold in place while you cut the sandwich into diagonal halves and then quarters.  Normally served with French fries.

YIELD: 1 Club Sandwich

Above Club Sandwich prepared on 07-14-16 using home grown vine ripe tomatoes and was "off the chain good" in my humble opinion.  Many use sliced turkey instead of ham, but processed and Deli turkey slices has diminished flavor to me personally.  I made a BLT sandwich along with this Club Sandwich and my bride and myself shared 1/2 of each sandwich.

This is my bride's favorite sandwich and one of my favorites since I have several favorites and would be hard pressed just to choose one.  This sandwich is basically two sandwiches in one, a BLT and a ham and cheese sandwich.  Many use a combination of ham and turkey slices but sliced turkey is not one of my favorite meats unless it is deep fried and/or wild turkey.  I do not use turkey meat seasoned and processed to mimic bacon, ham or anything.  To me "store bought" turkey is bland unless you kick it up a notch or two with some serious seasoning.  Normally, a Deli or Restaurant will give you the option of what type of meats you want on the club sandwich.

Using good quality ham and cheddar cheese combined with a fresh home grown vine ripe tomato will take this Classic Club Sandwich to another level of culinary enjoyment!  An acquaintance recommended that we toast the bread in a pan with butter instead of the toaster and it definitely is a better tasting club sandwich by doing so!

Botanically speaking, the tomato is a fruit but it is common practice to refer to the tomato as a vegetable.  So botanically and literally speaking, "We are enjoying the fruits of our harvest and labor."
